At Wheaton Moving & Storage, we have had the pleasure of providing our area with professional relocation services for years. We know that much our success is thanks to the continued support we get from our community, so we always try to go above and beyond to show our sincere appreciation for the people we have gotten to know through our experience. This year, we hosted a successful food drive as just a small way of showing how grateful we are for the community that we serve.
The Need
In the great state of Indiana, more than 900,000 people struggle with hunger. That means that far too many people in our community don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Even worse, we learned that that statistic translates to 1 in 6 children going hungry. To us, those numbers are simply unacceptable, so there was no question about it. We wanted to take action and make a difference in the lives of those people.
Our Food Drive
From October 29 to November 9, we hosted a Thanksgiving food drive to help provide meals to our neighbors during the upcoming holiday season. However, we knew that we couldn’t do it alone, so we enlisted the help of some of our partners at Wheaton World Wide Moving. With strength in numbers, we knew that we would be able to collect several non-perishable food items to be delivered throughout the community.
The Results
Thanks to everyone that helped support our efforts, we were able to provide more than 2,500 meals to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. These meals were made up of the more than 3,000 pounds of stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, pie filling, and many other goods. While this was incredible, we didn’t want to stop there. We also donated our time and equipment to help deliver all of the items we accumulated at our food drive.
In the end, we were able to make sure that 2,500 people had food to eat. Although that is just a small drop of water in a large bucket, we are grateful that we were able to help spread some holiday cheer this year.
